{"id":650,"date":"2010-01-13T11:42:20","date_gmt":"2010-01-13T17:42:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.feedyourkids.com\/blog\/?p=650"},"modified":"2010-01-13T12:04:51","modified_gmt":"2010-01-13T18:04:51","slug":"seven-layer-cookies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.feedyourkids.com\/blog\/?p=650","title":{"rendered":"Seven-Layer Cookies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.feedyourkids.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/cookie-tray.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-651\" title=\"cookie tray\" src=\"http:\/\/www.feedyourkids.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/cookie-tray.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Christmas Cookie Tray<\/p>\n<p>(I forgot to take a photo of the Seven-Layer Cookies, alone, so I only have them with the other cookies on a tray that I prepared for Christmas Eve at my mother-in-law&#8217;s, but you can still see how pretty these are.\u00a0 The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.epicurious.com\/recipes\/food\/photo\/Seven-Layer-Cookies-233296\">photo on epicurious<\/a> is even better.)<\/p>\n<p>from bottom to top:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.epicurious.com\/recipes\/food\/views\/Seven-Layer-Cookies-233296\">Seven-Layer Cookies<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.feedyourkids.com\/blog\/?p=40\">Swedish Spice Cookies<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.feedyourkids.com\/blog\/?p=56\">Orange Slice Cookies<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.feedyourkids.com\/blog\/?p=41\">My Grandmother&#8217;s Fudge<\/a><\/p>\n<p>(click on name of each cookie for recipe)<\/p>\n<p>This year was the first time that I made these traditional, Italian cookies from the beloved and departed Gourmet magazine (the other three on the platter, above, are time-tested family favorites,) but they will most likely be a new yearly addition to our holiday planning.\u00a0 They are rich and VERY sweet and a little finicky and time-consuming to make, but they are almond-y moist and deliciously sweet.\u00a0 They are quite good with the apricot jam, but would also be good with seedless raspberry or maybe even strawberry or cherry preserves, instead.\u00a0 The heating\/straining step seems tedious, but I do believe that it&#8217;s necessary for easier spreading and to ensure that the layered bars remain intact.\u00a0 These cookies are breathtakingly colorful and gorgeous on a cookie tray.\u00a0 The colors are very intense and vividly eye-catching.\u00a0 If you are disturbed by the amount of food coloring, you can make them all white (it won&#8217;t change the flavor,) but I do think that the colors are part of the appeal (and, I&#8217;m sure, have some symbolic &#8220;colors of the Italian flag&#8221;
