{"id":384,"date":"2008-08-27T10:59:01","date_gmt":"2008-08-27T10:59:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.feedyourkids.com\/blog\/?p=384"},"modified":"2008-08-27T10:59:01","modified_gmt":"2008-08-27T10:59:01","slug":"egg-in-a-nest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.feedyourkids.com\/blog\/?p=384","title":{"rendered":"Egg in a Nest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"mt-enclosure mt-enclosure-image\" style=\"display: inline;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"IMG_5704.jpg\" src=\"http:\/\/www.feedyourkids.com\/IMG_5704.jpg\" width=\"320\" height=\"232\" class=\"mt-image-none\" style=\"\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p>A tutorial on a classic, kid-friendly breakfast.<\/p>\n<p>You&#8217;ll need:<br \/>\na griddle or large skillet<br \/>\nbutter or margarine<br \/>\n(as much as I DETEST margarine, it&#8217;s actually better for this,<br \/>\nbecause you don&#8217;t have to worry about it over-browning, like you would with butter)<br \/>\none and egg and one piece of bread for each person you&#8217;re feeding<br \/>\n(we used wonderful wheat bread from <a href=\"http:\/\/weikels.c4.ixwebhosting.com\/mall\/homemade_bread.asp\">Weikel&#8217;s <strike>Shell station<\/strike> bakery<\/a> in LaGrange)<br \/>\na large cookie cutter (small enough to fit into your slice of bread)<br \/>\nlarge spatula<\/p>\n<p>Use the cookie cutter to cut a shape out of each piece of bread.  If you don&#8217;t have a cookie cutter the right size, you can use a drinking glass.  Save the cut-out shapes.<br \/>\n<span class=\"mt-enclosure mt-enclosure-image\" style=\"display: inline;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"IMG_5689.jpg\" src=\"http:\/\/www.feedyourkids.com\/IMG_5689.jpg\" width=\"320\" height=\"220\" class=\"mt-image-none\" style=\"\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Generously butter the griddle.  Heat it to medium-ish.<br \/>\n<span class=\"mt-enclosure mt-enclosure-image\" style=\"display: inline;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"IMG_5690.jpg\" src=\"http:\/\/www.feedyourkids.com\/IMG_5690.jpg\" width=\"318\" height=\"320\" class=\"mt-image-none\" style=\"\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Place the bread slices and reserved cut-out shapes on the griddle (or in the skillet &#8211; use what ya got!).<br \/>\n<span class=\"mt-enclosure mt-enclosure-image\" style=\"display: inline;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"IMG_5692.jpg\" src=\"http:\/\/www.feedyourkids.com\/IMG_5692.jpg\" width=\"293\" height=\"320\" class=\"mt-image-none\" style=\"\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Turn &#8217;em over the get the other side cookin&#8217;.  Add more <strike>butter<\/strike> margarine, if you need to.  Turn the cut-out shapes over, too.  Keep a close eye on them, because they will cook quickly and may need to be removed from the griddle.<br \/>\n<span class=\"mt-enclosure mt-enclosure-image\" style=\"display: inline;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"IMG_5693.jpg\" src=\"http:\/\/www.feedyourkids.com\/IMG_5693.jpg\" width=\"320\" height=\"303\" class=\"mt-image-none\" style=\"\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Gently crack an egg into each <strike>bread-hole<\/strike> &#8220;nest&#8221;.<br \/>\n<span class=\"mt-enclosure mt-enclosure-image\" style=\"display: inline;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"IMG_5694.jpg\" src=\"http:\/\/www.feedyourkids.com\/IMG_5694.jpg\" width=\"320\" height=\"261\" class=\"mt-image-none\" style=\"\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Dot each egg with a tiny bit of <strike>nasty, yellow, oily stuff<\/strike> margarine.<br \/>\n<span class=\"mt-enclosure mt-enclosure-image\" style=\"display: inline;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"IMG_5695.jpg\" src=\"http:\/\/www.feedyourkids.com\/IMG_5695.jpg\" width=\"295\" height=\"320\" class=\"mt-image-none\" style=\"\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Sprinkle each egg with salt and, if desired, pepper.<br \/>\n<span class=\"mt-enclosure mt-enclosure-image\" style=\"display: inline;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"IMG_5696.jpg\" src=\"http:\/\/www.feedyourkids.com\/IMG_5696.jpg\" width=\"320\" height=\"298\" class=\"mt-image-none\" style=\"\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Keep watching the little cut-out shapes!<br \/>\n<span class=\"mt-enclosure mt-enclosure-image\" style=\"display: inline;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"IMG_5697.jpg\" src=\"http:\/\/www.feedyourkids.com\/IMG_5697.jpg\" width=\"310\" height=\"320\" class=\"mt-image-none\" style=\"\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Lower the heat, if necessary, to keep the eggs from overcooking.  If you like your eggs <strike>cooked into submission<\/strike> firm, like Boy and Girl do, turn the toast\/eggs over.
